The Lost Sierra

No screens, just outdoor fun.

Experiences for Kids & Parents

Family travel can be tough. In the Lost Sierra, you’ll find things to do that will make your kids want to put down their devices, but will leave mom and dad’s wallet without too much damage. From arts and adventure to indoor movies and kid-friendly museums, these attractions are sure to delight.

thrill-seekers

Twist and turn on your favorite tube at Twenty Mile House, on the Feather River or at the Lakes Basin Recreation Area (don’t forget to teach the kids how to paddleboard!) If you stay at Nakoma Resort with your kiddos you can have fun in the pool, climb the rock wall, play basketball, and even watch the latest move in the private theater room!

Ready to explore by horse? Take the kids on their very own horse adventure at Reid Horse & Cattle Co. Experience amazing outdoor adventures at the summer camp at Grizzly Creek Ranch’s Sierra Nevada Journeys., and the Oakland Feather River Camp (founded in 1924!).  Lastly we recommend feeling the thrill of catching your own fish! We recommend trying Lake Almanor, Lake Davis, Bucks Lake (and the secret) Middle Fork of the Feather River in Clio, CA.

Sports Fans

Does your child love sports? Awesome! Build skills, develop socially, and get the kiddos into nature at the famous Two Rivers Soccer Camp.  Spots fill quickly, so inquire early!

Two Rivers offers a truly unique experience for the soccer enthusiast. The camp, featuring European and American soccer coaches, creates an authentic soccer atmosphere. The camp, located in Graeagle, California is nestled in the majestic Sierra with two rushing streams bordering the 40-acre site.

Nature Enthusiasts

Whether you’re looking to explore on foot, by bike, or via the water, the Lost Sierra offers an unparalleled outdoor recreation scene with the kids. Bear Lakes and Round Lake Loop Trail is a kid-friendly 4.0-mile loop trail near Blairsden Graeagle, California. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 1 h 42 min to complete. This is a very popular area for hiking and snowshoeing with the kiddos, and you’ll likely encounter other people while exploring. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.

The Frazier Falls Trail is a 1.1-mile out-and-back trail near Clio, California. Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 24 min to complete. This is a popular trail for birding and walking, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. Bring the kids scooters and they will have a GREAT time on this trail!

A hidden gem, take the kids to the Sierra Valley Farmer Market to pick fresh fruit, and explore nature at the farm. We also recommend the awesome Lost Sierra Farm Project Summer Farm Camp for kids!
