DESCRIPTION:Plumas Corp\, in partnership with the Plumas National Forest\, will hos ta community meetings — for the PNF Tributaries Forest Recovery Project. The project is in the initial stages of the planning process and is intended to restore and recover National Forest System lands heavily impacted by the 2021 Dixie Fire and the 2019 Walker Fire. The Tributaries Forest Recovery Project area covers 163\,248 acres from Grizzly Ridge to Lake Davis and up to Antelope Lake\, Taylor Lake and Lights Creek. The project area does not include any communities or populated areas. \n\nThe Portola community meeting will be held at the Portola Public Library\, located at 34 3rd Ave. Portola  from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursday\, July 27.\n\nThese meeting is open to the public. SUMMARY:Kids' Fishing Day at Packer Lake
DESCRIPTION:It’s that time of year again! Time for Kids’ Fishing Day at Packer Lake on the Yuba River Ranger District. For the twenty-first year\, children under the watchful eyes of their parents will gather at Packer Lake to test their angler skills and learn a few tricks from area fishermen. \nThis free fishing day for kids is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The entire family is encouraged to fish and learn about fishing at this exciting event. There will be plenty of fun hands-on nature activities for the kids. \n“This is a great time to take kids fishing and teach them a sport that will provide a lifetime of enjoyment\,” says Lauren Hoyle\, Assistant Wildlife Biologist for the Yuba River Ranger District. “There will be amphibians and reptiles to see and learn more about\,” says Hoyle. This will be quite an educational opportunity. \nJust before the event\, California Fish & Wildlife will stock the lake with plenty of fish and 50 of those fish will have special tags. If one of the kids catches one of those tagged fish\, they’ll win a free prize! \nFishing poles will be available to borrow for the event. Every kid that shows up will be entered into a raffle. And as an added attraction\, kids can paint their very own “fish print” t-shirts and bandanas. Last year\, the kids really enjoyed creating their own artwork from fish. There will also be games and presentations by wildlife experts and local anglers who know a trick or two about fishing at the lake.

DESCRIPTION:Since 2019\, we have eliminated the gravel road 93 to Baby Heads\, and replaced with spectacular all Sierra Crest singletrack on the new Gold Valley Rim Trail singletrack! Miles more of singletrack instead of gravel road. \nThe Downieville Classic cross country race is one of the last remaining point-to-point bicycle races in the United States. The 26.5 mile course follows a rugged “Gold Rush” era route that departs the mountain town of Sierra City (elevation 4\,100′)\, climbs to the crest of the Sierra Nevada (elevation 7\,469′)\, and then plunges 5\,700 vertical feet into downtown Downieville. A golden pathway\, selected as a tribute to the mountains\, the rivers\, the fresh mountain air\, and to the hard men that carved these trails through the river canyons in search of gold and prosperity. \nFor On-Site Registration and Packet Pick-up see the Registration page

SUMMARY:Veterans Fishing Day on Lake Almanor
DESCRIPTION:Who would have imagined that this event would become so popular so quickly. Special thanks to everyone in this picture and a few that couldn’t make it to the barbecue. As you can see by the photo it was a cold wet day\, in fact there was a winter weather advisory on June 11\, 2017 with snow\, wind and sleet at lake level. Not to be deterred sixteen boats took twenty-six Veterans fishing. \nIn 2018 AFA joined guides\, Field of Dreams\, USFS\, California Fish & Wildlife\, PG&E\, Chester Elks Lodge and fellow fishermen to host the second annual Veterans Fishing Day. Participants received a t-shirt and hat from AFA\, Field of Dreams and Mike and Peggy Daly. After a day of fishing they attended a barbecue dinner at the Chester Elks Lodge. In 2018 we had twenty-seven boats take forty-seven Veterans fishing. A small raffle was help for the Veterans where gift certificates\, custom made fishing rods and other items were awarded to Veterans. \nIn 2019 AFA\, Field of Dreams and local guides hosted multiple fishing trips for Field of Dreams Veterans on Lake Almanor. Veterans were treated to two nights lodging\, meals and a guided fishing trip. One of the participants who is a Vietnam Veteran and suffers from PTSD returned and informed us that his trip was one of the top five experiences of his life. AFA is honored and proud to provide these opportunities for our Veterans. Our Veteran fishing day held on June 23\, 2019…So perfect !…49 Captains and 97 Veterans. \nTo say the past two years have been challenging for the Lake Almanor Community would be a gross understatement. In 2020\, both our Veteran’s Fishing Day and our Annual Picnic had to be canceled. In 2021\, we were able to hold our fourth Veterans Fishing Day where fifty-three boats took 117 Veterans Fishing.
