SUMMARY:Veterans Fishing Day on Lake Almanor
DESCRIPTION:Who would have imagined that this event would become so popular so quickly. Special thanks to everyone in this picture and a few that couldn’t make it to the barbecue. As you can see by the photo it was a cold wet day\, in fact there was a winter weather advisory on June 11\, 2017 with snow\, wind and sleet at lake level. Not to be deterred sixteen boats took twenty-six Veterans fishing. \nIn 2018 AFA joined guides\, Field of Dreams\, USFS\, California Fish & Wildlife\, PG&E\, Chester Elks Lodge and fellow fishermen to host the second annual Veterans Fishing Day. Participants received a t-shirt and hat from AFA\, Field of Dreams and Mike and Peggy Daly. After a day of fishing they attended a barbecue dinner at the Chester Elks Lodge. In 2018 we had twenty-seven boats take forty-seven Veterans fishing. A small raffle was help for the Veterans where gift certificates\, custom made fishing rods and other items were awarded to Veterans. \nIn 2019 AFA\, Field of Dreams and local guides hosted multiple fishing trips for Field of Dreams Veterans on Lake Almanor. Veterans were treated to two nights lodging\, meals and a guided fishing trip. One of the participants who is a Vietnam Veteran and suffers from PTSD returned and informed us that his trip was one of the top five experiences of his life. AFA is honored and proud to provide these opportunities for our Veterans. Our Veteran fishing day held on June 23\, 2019…So perfect !…49 Captains and 97 Veterans. \nTo say the past two years have been challenging for the Lake Almanor Community would be a gross understatement. In 2020\, both our Veteran’s Fishing Day and our Annual Picnic had to be canceled. In 2021\, we were able to hold our fourth Veterans Fishing Day where fifty-three boats took 117 Veterans Fishing.

SUMMARY:Big Time Logging Jamboree
DESCRIPTION:The Maidu Summit Consortium will be hosting the Big Time Logging Jamboree sponsored by Collins Pines. “We had a great crowd last year from participants and fans who came out to cheer the competitors\,” says Trina Cunningham\, executive director. “This year we added more of the Maidu tradition to the event with the opening welcome and traditional songs presented in the Maidu language. This is an opportunity for people to enjoy the fun of a jamboree and learn more of the Maidu culture\, which is steeped in the area’s history and remains an integral part of what happens today and in the future of Plumas County as stewards of the land.” The welcome will be presented by Allen Lowry and traditional songs will be sung by Vance Hedrick. The jamboree\, in partnership with The Almanor Foundation (TAF) and Feather River Tourism Association (FRTA)\, will feature 10 competitions from the popular long-handle axe-throwing to one of the most vigorous\, the hand saw. Each category has a prize of $325 and the overall winner will receive $1\,000\, courtesy of Collins Pines. The free event will offer food and craft vendors\, music from local singing dentist\, Dr. Jeffery Benedictson and beverages poured by TAF. For those interested in supporting the replanting of the forests\, tree seedlings can be purchased in their name or in memorandum of a loved one. Event is from 12:00 to 4:00pm with entrance registration beginning at 11:00am. \nThe Maidu Summit Consortium is hosting The Big Time Logging Jamboree. Join us at Chester Park and take part in or cheer on 10 competitive logging categories.

SUMMARY:Indian Valley's Valley Wide Yard
DESCRIPTION:Warm weather is upon us\, and popping up along with the wildflowers are yard sale signs. If you are someone who enjoys finding treasures at yard sales\, garage sales\, or estate sales you will be excited to hear the annual valley wide yard sale held in Indian Valley this coming this May. This event is a great opportunity to reconnect with old friends and meet new neighbors\, all while finding treasures along the way. Eva Gorman\, chairman of the event\, and long time resident\, emphasized the importance of connection within the community after the devastating Dixie Fire. “This is a wonderful opportunity to not only replace and  acquire items\, but to slow down and connect with each other. After several years of traumatic experiences with COVID and the Dixie Fire\, our community members appreciate the companionship of each other more than ever.”  \nFor 20 years the Indian valley Chamber of Commerce has been hosting this event\, bringing people from all around Plumas County to the scenic valley where they can enjoy the beautiful views while scavenging for treasures all along the way. Whether you’re looking for antiques or tools\, with so many sales happening at once\, there’s bound to be something for everyone! For more information contact Eva Gorman at (415)497-7514 or eva@josefinafineknits.com \nThe event is Saturday-Sunday\, May 20-21\, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.\, throughout the communities of Indian Valley. Maps will be available at local businesses and online at www.indianvalleychamber.org

SUMMARY:Sierra Timberfest 2023 Logging Show
DESCRIPTION:Sierra Timberfest is a celebration of all things in the timber industry. We honor loggers and recognize the invaluable role logging plays in protecting our forests. Sierra Timberfest takes great pride in showcasing the skillsets of timbersport athletes while also providing education during this family friendly event. \nThe Sierra Timberfest is located in the beautiful small High Sierra Mountain Valley town of Loyalton\, Ca. Loyalton only has one hotel with 12 rooms. The hotel owner\, one of the event organizers\, will block the rooms of the weekend of the event for competitors\, first come first serve (https://www.goldenwest711.com). However\, if you have an RV trailer and wish to stay in that\, there is plenty of room at the old mill\, there are no RV hookups at this site though (contact Wes Palmer if you are bringing on RV). Loyalton is also a short drive west from Reno should anyone be flying in. There are also many hotels in Reno if you’re unable to stay in Loyalton. \nWe will have an area designated for contestants\, however we have limited space. Contestants will be able to unload gear at the contestant’s area and park their vehicles in the hotel parking lot near the arena. We will also have some pop-ups and tables set up in the contestant’s area\, should there be anyone flying in. \nWe hope to see you at the Sierra Timberfest! \n
